What I’ve Been Drinking ~ Mint Tea

Since the weather has been getting cooler here in the UK, I’ve been enjoying mint tea on a daily basis! I feel so lucky we have a mint plant in our garden! Mint is naturally caffeine free, uplifting, refreshing and has plenty of health benefits including helping digestion, relieving indigestion, soothing an upset stomach, it’s great for IBS and can even improve oral health too.

Just infuse your mint leaves in hot water (the longer you let it ‘brew’ the more benefits you will get) or if you don’t have your own mint plant then you can try organic loose leaf herbal tea. It’s best to avoid using tea bags because usually they are made from toxic chemicals like plastic and bleached with chlorine so when you combine that with hot water, the chemicals leach into the water you then go onto drink!

What I’ve Been Trying Out ~ Begin Within Daily Journal

If you were following me on Instagram, you might have already seen me talk about ‘Begin Within’ Journals but if you’re new here then let me introduce you! First off I love the design, the colours, the aesthetic and the overall look of the journals is so damn cute. But more importantly the functionality of the journal is what really matters…

Begin Within journals provide a daily prompt to help track a variety of topics such as hours of sleep, quality of sleep, diet and nutrition, medications and supplements, pain levels, other symptoms and physical activity. It also has a section incase you need to record specific metrics like blood pressure, oxygen level, blood sugar, body temperature, days of your cycle, bowel movements.

However, it is not solely for those with physical illness as it also focuses on mental health and mindfulness with areas to journal your overall mood, emotions, frustrations, successes, gratitude, goals and a space for extra notes. All in all it’s an extremely well rounded wellness journal and suitable beyond those with health challenges for anyone interested in wellness and self care! It’s also much more in depth than other journals I’ve seen.

I find it especially helpful to be able to track my progress so before medical appointments I can refer back to it for an overall view of how I’ve been doing to update my health care practitioners. It can also help you discover any trends of specific triggers that could be effecting you mentally or physically that you didn’t notice previously.

I highly recommend to anyone on a healing journey or a journey inwards of self discovery!

What I’ve Been Taking ~ Neuroprotek

Neuroprotek is a supplement that has helped me soooo much with the symptoms I experience from histamine intolerance (HI) and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).

It's made up of a unique combination of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy flavonoid compounds called quercetin, rutin and luteolin. It was created based off the scientific research which showed that these flavonoids have the ability to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in both the gut and the brain! How amazing!

What I’ve Been Eating ~ Chia Seed Pudding

Chia seed pudding is one of my staple breakfasts because you only need a few ingredients so it’s super easy to make and you can also batch make enough to store in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months. Nutritionally, chia seeds are often considered a ‘superfood’ due to their high fibre content which is essential for good digestive health. They are also a great source of omega 3 fatty acids which can help improve brain and heart health. It's rather filling too so if you have chia seed pudding for breakfast, it will help keep you full for longer!

What I’ve Been Reading (Non Fiction) ~ Sick: A Memoir by Porochista Khakpour

- Memoir, Health, Disability, Medical, Mental Health

This might possibly be one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s raw, real, honest, hard-hitting, heart breaking and heart warming at the same time. Porochista shares her difficult quest to find a correct diagnosis to explain her mysterious symptoms that have plagued her for most of her adult life, resulting in the eventual diagnosis of Lyme disease. She then explores her ongoing struggles attempting to find treatments that work for her as well as the relapsing nature and uncertainty surrounding the late stages of this disease.

However, this is not just a biography about Lyme disease, Porochista also shares her experiences with mental illness, anxiety, depression, addiction and eating disorders. This candid story is for anyone affected by mental or physical illness or simply if you are interested in the messy beauty and raw vulnerability that it means to be human.
